Built by candidates who were tired of vibes-based scoring.
We grew up taking IELTS and TOEFL mocks where the score never explained why. Three engineers, two linguists, one frustrating Sunday — and EngTest was born.
Honest English testing — at the price of a single chai.
Most English test prep is either expensive 1-on-1 tutoring or unscored YouTube mocks. We sit in the middle: AI-graded mocks that match the official rubrics, costing less than the registration fee for the real test.
Our pledge is simple: your score reflects what a real examiner would give you, plus or minus half a band. We calibrate against human raters every quarter and publish the agreement numbers.
Three values, no exceptions.
Honest scoring
We grade strictly. Better to overprepare than be surprised on test day. Reports show raw + scaled so candidates can sanity-check us.
Candidate-aligned
We make money when you succeed, not when you keep retaking. No "premium tutoring" upsells. Just clear scores and clear next steps.
Boring infrastructure
Whisper, Azure, Claude — well-known providers, audited pipelines. No moonshot ML claims; just consistent, explainable scoring.
The team.
A small, full-stack team of linguists and engineers based out of Pune.
Cambridge CELTA, 8 years grading IELTS for a top coaching chain. Author of the rubric pipeline.
Built 3 ed-tech products before this. Took IELTS three times — got the same band each time, never knew why.
Calibrates the AI against human raters. Believes good scoring is 80% prompt design.
